Two Is Company

While working on this photo and the others from this day of shooting, I realized something. My human subjects very rarely have faces. Well, they have faces, but they’re hidden in my photos. Check my archive. Most of those shots are of people moving or looking or being away — or they’re somehow hidden. Even the rare occasions when there is a face defined in the shot, there’s usually an object in the foreground. For protection, I suppose.

From what?

color! there is still something about color that i like a little more than b&w. i think it is because you can tell more about the enviroment when the pic is in color. it helps to explain the subjects habits. if this one bere b&w it might look cold and you would wonder why a person would be sitting on a bench.

Judging by her coat, I think it was cold, Josh. Could be wrong though…it’s been going between balmy and frickin’ freezing out here.

I agree with your observation, Andy–definitely fewer faces in your photos than most. While I like the composition in this one, as well as the color and exposure, I feel a little bit as though I’ve seen it before. Still, the tree is distinctive and helps the shot out.

I seem to remember one of your human subjects having a very large eye – that’s almost like having a whole face.

Ando – You should really publish a book of your park bench photos — it may be just the niche that a publisher is looking for !!

Yes, color. I like it too, but when it distracts from the forms of the shapes in the photo, it’s out like bell bottoms.

And yes, it was warm. This woman is just exhibiting Chronic Overdressers of New York Syndrome (CONYS).

Becca: No, it’s not like that at all.

Dad: I do plan on eventually preparing a series of my best shots in parks. Maybe a gallery show or something, who knows?
