Tree and Stump

This shot kind of summarizes for me the difficulties of summer photography. Basically the only colors that you get in nature during the summer are green, blue, and brown. Leaves, sky, and dirt/trunks. It is thus very hard for me to find inspiration in the city during these summer months, which would explain my posting “frequency.” However, in the interest of trying to maintain a certain standard for my images, I’d rather post photos I’m proud of infrequently than photos I don’t really like frequently.

Then again, you may hate this shot. One never knows…

No, I like this shot a good deal actually, it was the last one I didn't care for… just seemed unremarkable and heavy on the green. I find the particular hue of blue (hahaha rhyme!) in the sky very appealing among other things in this one.

I panned to the bottom of this shot and got depressed. But in an artistic, this-must-be-intentional kind of way.

Feel you on the summer "difficulties," Cog. Though I have slightly more variety in landscape, one might argue, so I should be posting more frequently.

I enjoy the top half of this photograph. I particularly enjoy the interplay between the cloud line and the tree line. I think it is a nice "catch."

    Gorsk -

It’s funny that you say you enjoy the top half of this image, since it’s the bottom half that I think conveys what I wanted the shot’s theme to be. Of course, I don’t know that you can really “enjoy” the bottom half — so perhaps what you say is entirely correct — but I think it’s necessary, so I hope you didn’t dismiss it as unappreciable just because it’s unenjoyable.

Of course, if you’re a postmodern deconstructionist, it doesn’t matter what I say, anyway.

Oh, I don't dislike the bottom, and I certainly would not dismiss this photo becuase the colors are amazingly rich. I just really like the top–and then not even all of the top, more the mid section.

I also agree with Jandl that the bottom is rather depressing. I think I might be able to truly enjoy the whole composition if I had a larger computer screen so that it could all fit on there without scrolling. Tant pis pour moi, non?

I love this photo. It is depressing. But it is also incredibly sharp. I love how it almost seems as though there is a spotlight on the patch of dirt. As I looked at it, I almost felt as though it were a picture of a scene in a diorama. On my monitor, at least, the whole thing looks too perfect–it ends up looking artificial. If this were blown up to 3 feet by 2 feet, I'd have an even better time with it.
