Reclaiming

A photo of the woods behind my parents’ house in Wisconsin. This wooden bridge is basically the last vestige of the network of paths that once criss-crossed my backyard and that pretty much taught me how to mountain bike.

Readers may also note that this is the first photo I’ve posted here in awhile, and that it was taken by a Canon PowerShot S80.

This was one of the first photos I’d taken since basically October, and as far as I can tell, it’ll be up for awhile, as my hiatus shows no sign of letting up.

Which is why I sold my big Nikon D2x. The S80 is pretty much the only camera I have left, and is there for the cases in which I really would like to record something visual.

Well hiatus it may be, but you have not lost your touch with a camera, my friend. It’s also quite impressive for a compact, I must say. Good to see something new up.

Unfortunately, I don’t know an S80 from a D2x, but I have seen a few backyards in my time, and this has got to be one of the best. Wow. If I’d grown up with this out my back door, there definitely would have been a monster living under that bridge, and I, as Heroic Forest Princess Laurenthia (obviously) would have been given the charge of saving all the Woodland Creatures and Acorn Fairies from his hairy, probably fire-breathing wrath.
    But maybe that’s just me.
Either way, I’m really glad you took a brief hiatus from your hiatus. :)

That’s nice, Guz… er… Laurenthia. I actually spent a fair bit of my childhood defending this forest from Bad Guys, myself. It’s funny – they always attacked exactly when I had time to be outside and always retreated when I got tired.
I never lost a single battle!
I don’t think the Bad Guys were either hairy or fire-breathing, though. They mostly used guns. I think I always won because my gun was cleverly disguised as a stick.

Stick-guns are a surprisingly important part of a good stealth arsenal. I also found my stick-light saber amazingly effective at cutting down hordes of woodland ruffians–and of course, it served the double-purpose of deflecting any and all projectiles fired at me.
