You know, when I was preparing to move to New York City, I was worried that I would lose my photographic inspiration; being that this city is pretty much “urban” par excellence and that most of my pictures here on AC.com prior to the move were very much not urban, I was afraid of what sidewalks and asphalt and tall skyscrapers would do to my “style” as it were. Plus, I didn’t know if I’d be able to kneel really close to the ground to get the cool macro shots I used to get since I’m usually pretty conscious of what people around me might think about a guy kneeling on the sidewalk an inch away from a weed or whatever. I guess in that sense I’m afraid to be judged.
But then I moved here. And I’ll tell you what: yeah, things are different here. Really, really different. But once I stopped walking down a block and just looking at the buildings around me, I took the ultra-wideangle off and put a zoom lens on and started taking “classic” Andy shots, if there is such a thing. I mean, take this shot for example. It’s totally my style, no? Sure, it’s lamps along a sidewalk rather than fenceposts along a snowy field in Vermont, but, nevertheless, the transition wasn’t as hard as I had feared. In fact, it’s more evolution than it is transition.
Anyhow, enough self-inflating talk about my “style”; I really just wanted to point out that there is nothing to fear, guys, I’m still very much a photographer and I’m still inspired — for the most part. We’ll see if it continues, given that this clear weather with highs around 80 is actually getting pretty old. I’m getting bored of the nice weather! How about some rain, New York? Huh? Some clouds? I’d like that. Let’s see if you’ve got it. You’re starting to feel like California.

I am lovin the blue of the glass on those lights…they stand out so well with the softer blues and the black of the post. NYC, he’s the man.
