Caché

It’s French for “hidden.”

On a sad note, this may be the last photo I post for awhile. I’ve sold my big camera and don’t really intend on replacing it for now. I feel a strange mix of emotions about photography lately, so please bear with my (hopefully temporary) crise d’existence artistique. I may start painting, actually.

Breaks are beneficial. You’ll come back (I believe) and be glad you took time to refresh your eye.

Great colors and nice composition. I would only suggest cropping away the sky. You lose a little context, but the shapes and colors in the photo–which are, clearly, the point–are brought to the fore with greater impact. This actually reminds me of a photo that I took and eventually reposted with a similar effect: http://flickr.com/photos/njandl/63397699/in/set-1821467/.

Despite previously insisting that you are too good a photographer to give it up, I now understand this temporary artistic crisis and agree with Nate that breaks can be very beneficial. I sincerely doubt that your artistic and intellectual inclinations will fail you or your fan club! Good luck with the painting and I’ll see you in the Salon revival.

I’ll add that I wonder where you took this photo. Vermont? I also wonder if you’ve been looking at some Chinese landscape paintings… because the vertical composition and the Confucian-esque image of a lone cabin (as symbolic of man) unassumingly tucked within nature’s dominion evoke the poetic sensibilities of a Chinese scroll. Perhaps I’m just seeing this through my own eyes but this is the most Chinese-like photo I’ve seen in a while. Marvelously done, Andy!

The foreground is blown out and the color is unnaturally muted. You can do better.
